The Passive Cleaner Boat Bot (PCBB) team proposes a localized, autonomous boat and a net system to passively drift near the coastlines and collect garbage to prevent hazardous materials from entering into the open ocean. The presence and further accumulation of anthropogenic waste in the oceans continue to depreciate the world’s delicate ecosystems. Although the implemented technology aims to slowly remove the waste already amassed in the deep sea, there is currently no sustainable plan for mitigating additional pollutant runoff. The solar-powered vessel will utilize GPS navigation, integrated sensors, and employ object detection to prevent collision and run free of tedious oversight. These “boat bots” will be stationed and anchored (hence passive) where river water deposits into the ocean along coastlines, preventing the further spread of pollution.
